The vertical drama industry is about to get its own festival and awards ceremony, and it isn’t landing in Los Angeles. Micro Drama Fest 2027 will take place in January 2027 in India, at a venue just a few hundred meters from the Taj Mahal. Organizers describe it as the inaugural film festival and awards ceremony dedicated to the micro drama industry.
The first edition is intentionally smaller in scale, but organizers see significant room to grow. Their message to talent is that those who join now will be remembered as the founding participants when the event scales. They also draw a line to the community’s recent efforts to champion human actors in the age of AI, and they are asking for the same spirit of support here.
A dozen actors are already confirmed for the India event: Luke Brewer, Lukas Silva, Anina Net, Rebecca Berg, David Williams, Amanda Smith, Steven Morana, TJ Wilk, Kiki Fragnoli, Eric Guilmette, Jeff Violetta, and Tess Din.
The choice of location is central to the concept. Organizers point out that most major industry events are concentrated in the United States, particularly Los Angeles, while the audience for micro dramas is global, with a massive fan base in India, the Philippines, across Asia, and throughout Europe, including Germany, the UK, and Eastern Europe. For many of those fans, attending an event in LA is out of reach. Visa access is a challenge for fans in much of Asia, and travel costs add another barrier. Organizers say that if the industry wants to grow its fan base, it has to bring events closer to the people who watch.
The response so far suggests the idea is landing. Organizers report strong interest from U.S.-based fans, alongside numerous registrations from fans in India, where they say the event offers a different culture and a remarkable setting.
For the talent involved, the festival is positioned as a chance to gain exposure and recognition among a wider audience, industry insiders, production companies, and executives from micro drama platforms. Built around an all-inclusive “Stars to Fans” concept, it aims to bring international talent directly to their fans, building loyalty and expanding global fanbases through word-of-mouth.
Above all, Micro Drama Fest 2027 is an invitation. Organizers are calling on everyone who loves this industry, from fans and creators to industry professionals, to attend, be part of something from the ground up, and help shape a celebration that could grow into one of micro drama’s defining events.
